HEART OF ENGLAND CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY COLLEAGUES SHORTLISTED FOR THREE NATIONAL AWARDS

Wednesday 22nd June

Colleagues across the Heart of England Co-operative Society’s Food Division are celebrating after being shortlisted for three national awards.

The Co-operative at Hockley Heath is one of four finalists in the Multiple Managed Store of the Year Award – a category within the Convenience Awards 2022, while Mary Bradshaw, Store Manager of The Co-operative at Market Bosworth is a finalist in the Convenience Rising Star category

Marina Murkovic, Customer Service Assistant at The Co-operative in Alfall Road, in the Wyken area of Coventry, is up for the Sales Colleague of the Year Award.

Founded with one Food store in the Lockhurst Lane area of Coventry 190 years ago this year, the Society today operates a network of 36 Food stores in Coventry, Warwickshire and parts of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

It is among several national retailers such as Spar, Londis and Costcutter to make it through to the finals.

Organised by Convenience Store Magazine, Lumina Intelligence and The Grocer Magazine, The Convenience Awards bring together professionals across the convenience sector to highlight the innovation and achievements of retailers, suppliers, service providers and unsung heroes.

Steve Browne is the General Manager of the Heart of England Co-operative Society’s Food Division.

He said: “There has been no end of issues which have directly affected food retailers in recent years, including Covid19 and the knock-on effects of supplies, transportation issues and now the cost of living, inflation and Russia’s war with the Ukraine impacting supplies of products such as wheat and sunflower oil, among others.

“In the face of such adversities the teams at each and every one of our Food stores have continued to pull together to ensure all our customers continue to receive the very best experience every time they shop with us.

“There are so many unsung heroes in our Society that it would be impossible to put them all forward for an award, but to be shortlisted for three, from three different stores, is a reflection of the hard work that goes throughout the business on a daily basis.”

The winners of the Convenience Awards will be announced at a gala dinner, taking place at The Londoner in Leicester Square, London, on Tuesday, September 13th.
