Monday 21st Febuary
Fairtrade farmers are among those who have always had the least harmful effect on our planet. But they can be among the first to suffer the effects of climate change which can have a devastating impact on their crops and harvests.
Fairtrade Fortnight is an annual event which highlights the plight of these producers and educates the UK population on how to support the movement and, together, reduce our impact on the environment.
The Co-op was among the first retailers in the UK to champion the Fairtrade movement 26 years ago. Even now our entire ranges of own brand of hot drinks and chocolate are Fairtrade-produced.
Every sale of a Fairtrade item from our shelves helps to give producers a decent, stable price and a long-term working relationship with guaranteed pay and conditions.
Among the fantastic goods on our shelves are Co-op Fairtrade Baby Plum Tomatoes (250g) for 85p, Co-op Fairtrade Oranges (4-pack) for £1.50 and Co-op Fairtrade Grapes for £1.50.
We also stock a wide selection of Fairtrade wines. Every sale of our Fairtrade irresistible Organic Malbec from Argentina helps towards providing an entire community with education and fresh water, while our Fairtrade Irresistible Sauvignon Blanc and Fairtrade Bruce Jack Shiraz – both from South Africa – all help boost funds in their respective communities.
Fairtrade Fortnight is from February 21st to March 6th.
