Invited guests gathered for a dedication ceremony marking the official launch of the Heart of England Co-operative Society’s new £620,000 funeral home in Towcester, Northamptonshire.

The facility, on Watling Street West, is the Society’s second funeral home in Northamptonshire and the 14th in the whole network, which also spans Coventry, Warwickshire and south Leicestershire.

Situated within a Grade II listed building the new facility includes an arranging room and two chapels of rest.

The upstairs of the building includes office space which the Society will make available for local community organisations to use.

David Barrington, President of the National Association of Funeral Directors, and the Mayor of Towcester, Cllr Lisa Samiotis, were among the guests at the ceremony officiated by the Rev Paula Challen and Rev Lulu Pelly, both of St Lawrence Church, Towcester, on Saturday, November 16th.

Darryl Smith, General Manager of the Society’s Funeral Division, said the new funeral home had resulted in the recruitment of three new members of staff.

Darryl added: “We are delighted to expand into Towcester for the first time. We felt that the town offered us an ideal opportunity to better serve our members in this locality, where our roots stretch back to 1866 when we first incorporated the nearby Banbury Co-operative Society into our business family.

“With our new team on hand we will provide client families in the Towcester area with the same first-class service our client families have come to know and expect at all of our other funeral homes.”
