THE HEART OF ENGLAND CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY ADOPTS ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY AS ITS CORPORATE CHARITY

The Heart of England Co-operative Society has announced Alzheimer’s Society as its nominated charity.

The two-year partnership has come as a welcome boost for the charity which is among the many in the UK which have been affected by Covid-19.

Since lockdown Alzheimer’s Society has seen an increase in demand for its vital support services, as well as a reduction in income as social distancing has forced the cancellation of its programme of events.

Over the coming months the Heart of England Co-operative Society, which operates a network of 35 Food stores and 15 Funeral homes, will help raise funds for the charity which works to ensure nobody faces dementia alone.

Figures from Alzheimer’s Society revealed that:

• One in 14 people nationally over the age of 65 are living with dementia.
• One in three people born in the UK will develop dementia in their lifetime.
• Dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK
• In 2019/20, 17,250 people across the Midlands accessed Alzheimer’s Society’s services, including its Dementia Advisers and Singing for the Brain sessions
• There are 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today. By 2025 this figure is expected to rise to one million, and to 1.5 million by 2040

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic the charity has adapted its service to continue its support for people living with dementia and their families.

Alzheimer’s Society provides care and practical support for people with dementia. The charity also funds research into the cause and into cures and prevention. This includes funding projects at universities across the Midlands. Alzheimer’s Society also campaigns for change for people affected.

“The money raised through the partnership will enable us to continue providing support for families affected by dementia across the Midlands.
