The Heart of England Co-operative Society has created 16 jobs with the opening of an exciting new £2 million Food store in the heart of the community in Holbrooks, Coventry.

Store Manager Dean Blunt and his staff were ready to greet shoppers when the doors opened at The Co-operative in Rotherham Road next door to The Craftsman pub.

The new 3,000 sq ft store offers a wide variety of services to customers including a large off-licence, an extended range of fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and dairy products and groceries, and free to use cash machine.

Following a trend introduced in other Food stores, there will also be a tasty selection of hot and cold food and drinks to go, including Costa Coffee and Rollover.

The opening marks an expansion of the Society’s network of Food Stores, bringing the total to 33 and it is the first addition to the network since 2016, with a further two opening by January 2020.

The last addition was when the Society converted a derelict pub, The Grange, in Alfall Road, Wyken, into a Food store. It later invested £1.8 million in a complete re-build of its Lateshop in Long Lawford, Rugby, rebranding it as a Food store under The Co-operative brand.

Steve Browne, General Manager of the Society’s Food Division, said: “The Heart of England Co-operative is committed to serving the community and we are delighted to be opening a new Food store in Holbrooks.

“The Rotherham Road site gave us a marvellous opportunity to build a completely new Food store to our specifications to provide shoppers with a great experience when they visit and we are sure it will be very popular.

“We are excited to be expanding our network of Food stores and have invested significant sums to make sure they excel at providing this vital local service.”

The Food store is open from 7am to 10pm and has a large car park.
